This book was initially conceived as a collection of humorous verses to describe the relationship between Picasso and his muses. This evolved into the witty and informative verses seen here that speak of Picasso’s life, loves and art. The etchings comment independently of the text and subvert the roles of, women and mythology, in Picasso’s prints.

Prescient Times

by Elizabeth Horwood and Sue Baker Kenton

Edition: 5    Newspaper    pub: 2018

 £250.00

Size: 36cm x 29cm

20 pages

Silkscreen & Gum Arabic Transfer (monotype & hand additions) handprinted on newsprint.

The “Prescient” in the title of the work expresses the notion of fatefulness, vision and human anticipation of a course of events. Our subjects, the saints, were rebellious or uninhibited, crabby and cantankerous, ill-informed and opinionated, but individuals who chose to point their lives in a particular direction, who were a product of their cultures and times.

In this newspaper the reader encounters historical tales of constancy and principle, that call, respond and mingle therein with modern day concerns that inflame hearts and transform lives.

The deliberate choice to print a newspaper refers to the multiple – to information overload, and to the power of ‘news’ to make something real to those who are elsewhere.  This paper is unique, handmade and our personal interpretation on the day it was printed.  Each copy in this edition will vary; the Saints’ texts remain, but the accompanying stories and images will differ, circling the text in a dynamic way.
